The latest and first game from the mind of Hideo Kojima since has departure from Konami, was on show at The Game Awards last night with Death Stranding.  The game was first announced at E3 earlier in the year, featuring a baby, dead whales and a naked Norman Reedus.  It gave practically nothing away in terms of story or even gameplay, but it was more than enough to get fans intrigued for Kojima’s newest project.  Then last September, we learned that the game will have open-world and online components.

However, last night with its second trailer, we learned a little more about its themes and which other cast of characters will star.  At the very beginning of the trailer, we see what looks to be movie director and fellow visionary of the cancelled Silent Hill’s; Guillermo Del Toro, clutching a seemingly very conscious baby…in a jar, which also apparently is some kind of weapon.  Whether Del Toro will feature as a key character in the game remains to be seen, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if he does feature in some capacity.

Then as the trailer progresses, we see a group of skull-faced soldiers literally connected to what looks to be one of the games bad guys, who is played by a very sinister looking Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Casino Royale).  Then to add to the creep factor, a disfigured baby doll floats to his feet, before its eyes begin to twitch.  Hideo Kojima also confirmed that the Death Stranding trailer, was running real-time on the PS4 pro.

Speaking of the great man himself, Kojima has supposed to pick up the Industry Icon Award at last year’s show, but with Konami being Konami, they went out there way to insure that there lawyers blocked him from attending.

Now Kojima is free of Konami, he was finally able to accept his award last night, which led to heart-felt and emotional speeches from both Kojima and The Game Awards chief; Geoff Keighley.  You can see Hideo Kojima finally receiving his award below.  Congratulations Kojima-san, you deserve it.

As we learned in September, Death Stranding will release for PC and PS4 sometime in 2018…maybe.
