Developers of the Forza Motorsport series has announced that loot boxes or prize crates as they’re known here will be removed from Forza 7 this coming winter.  The news was announced on forzamotorsport.net by Alan Hartman, the studio head at Turn 10.

Due to the removal of the prize crates being quite complex, this is why we must apparently wait until this winter for them to be removed, along with prize tokens, the in-game currency purchased with real-world money.  However, as of now, earning cars from the prize crates have been completely removed, so you can only earn cars the old fashioned way via game progression and purchasing them with career money you’ve earned.  But for now until this winter, prize crates will only contain cosmetic items such as driver gear, badges and mods.

In the same blog post, Hartman also confirmed that Forza Horizon 4, which is set to release this October will not have any loot boxes, microtransactions or anything that is regarded as “pay-to-win”.

Personally I think this is another step in the right direction, however it’s a shame that this step wasn’t taken much sooner than now.  In my review of Forza Motorsport 7, I really couldn’t fault the fantastic gameplay and visuals, but the loot box heavy formula certainly took away that sense of satisfaction you’d get from earning cars the old fashioned way like in previous games.

What you do think of the removal of loot boxes from Forza Motorsport 7?  Is it another step in the right direction for the industry or is it all simply too little too late?  Let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
