Publisher Capcom and developer Spark Interactive have released a new video for Lost Planet 3 that showcases the effects that the extreme weather has on a human body. It is not fictional or anything, but is actually informative about the realistic outcomes. As you know, the game takes place on E.D.N. III once again, where the temperature is a lethal -120 degree Celsius. So basically, if the creatures don’t manage to kill you, the cold will!

However, the reason this trailer has really grabbed my attention is how realistic the scenarios are. The reason I say this, is even though there are tons of horror games like Dead Space 3, Cryostasis or Cold Fear that take place in a cold setting, few actually acknowledge it as a threat. In my opinion, the cold is a monster itself, something that you need to survive. From the games that I had mentioned before, only Cryostasis and Dead Space 3 seems to have emphasized that. However, that element was just an undertone.

Now I hope that Lost Planet 3 will really acknowledges its harsh and cold setting, because the first two games did. They had an element called, “T-Energy“. You had to basically stock up T-Energy, to prevent yourself from freezing to death. It was an energy that kept you warm and fighting. Now, unfortunately from what I have heard already about the third iteration in Lost Planet, there is no mention of T-Energy, so I hope Spark has something planned, because a cold and harsh setting goes hand-in-hand with horror as bread on butter (Or peanut butter with jelly, whatever your preference is).

Lastly, the game will release at the end of this month on August 30th for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but it will be available on this date for PC as a digital download only, then a  retail version will follow dropping on September 2nd. The game is available for pre-purchase on Steam and is currently supporting the reward method, where if more people buy the game, more rewards will be unlocked. The stage one reward has already been unlocked, which  contains the Freedom Fighter’s Pack that has 5 multiplayer characters and two rig upgrades. The second one will also be a multiplayer unlock, called the Punisher Pack, which will net you 3 long-range weapons and 2 rig upgrades. However, the most interesting unlock seems to be the last stage, which will get you a free copy of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Which are both, in my opinion, stellar titles.

Anyways, be sure to check out the trailer below and take the survival test yourself on Facebook! Remember, the creatures aren’t the only thing to be afraid of!
