Great news for video game music lovers as the original soundtrack to Lost Planet 3 will be released tomorrow via iTunes and Amazon. The soundtrack to the game has been composed by the award winning Jack Wall, whose works you might have heard in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and more popularly, Mass Effect 2. For the game, Jack Wall was tasked with creating two volumes of the soundtrack, Country and Cinematic. According to Jack Wall:

When Spark and Capcom asked me to write alien country as roughly half of the soundtrack to Lost Planet 3, I was really intrigued,” Wall said via press release. “It would be the main character’s mix tape. This is the music Jim Peyton listens to when he’s on mission in his rig — the music his wife Grace, back on Earth, sends him to remind him of home. The challenge was to make it real, but add just enough elements and context to make it seem like it is music from the future.

Also, you can listen to five themes from the soundtrack for free, including the main theme, on Jack Wall’s soundcloud page or just above. The main theme is very reminiscent of the “John Carpenter” era, with tense string structures and rhythmic orchestration that doesn’t rely on loud sounds or frantic pace to complement horror. That isn’t even the best part though, as the best is probably the chilling vocal work that truly highlights the strange and alien world the game takes place on. All in all, it is a great piece that highlights mystery and blends it with classic horror, reminiscent of Ennio Morricone’s horror scoring.

The game releases by the 30th August on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with digital only steam version on PC.
