Marvel knows we want a new Marvel vs. Capcom, but it won’t happen anytime soon

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 released way back in 2011 on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and since that time, fighting fans have been wondering when we’ll be treated with the latest instalment.  Sadly, information as to when or if a fourth game will actually arrive has been rather scarce.  Well, until now, though it is still rather vague.

However, last week Polygon spoke to Marvel Games vice president Jay Ong and he let them know that they are listening to fans requests.  When asked about a new Marvel vs. Capcom, Ong said “There’s nothing we can say at this time,” he added. “Let’s just say that we hear that a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can’t say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?

In regards to other Marvel titles, Ong said that Marvel games has “lots of things in the works, quite a few in the console space that are unannounced.”  We already know that a Marvel game from Telltale Games is on the way and during E3, a new Spider-Man title from Insomniac Games was announced, which will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Sadly, it’s anyone’s guess as to when we’ll see a new Marvel vs. Capcom, if at all, as Capcom’s license with Marvel expired in 2013, which is why you won’t see Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on either the PSN Store or Xbox Marketplace.  So it’s just as unlikely at this time that we’d even get a HD remaster of some sort.  But if or when Capcom renew that license, we’ll at least know that the ball has begun to roll.  Fingers crossed that happens sooner, rather than later, and as always, we’ll keep you posted should we hear any further developments.
