As PS4 owners eagerly anticipate what the next big game announcement will be, Tribute Games have revealed that Mercenary Kings will be heading to the PS4 this April.

In a statement featured on the PlayStation Blog, the following statement was revealed:

“For all of us here at Tribute Games, today is our second-most-awaited day of 2014: telling everyone about our FIRST most-awaited day of this year… the PS4 launch of Mercenary Kings, debuting April 1st on Playstation Store!

In this action-packed adventure, you must choose between Empress and King, two members of the elite squad known as the Mercenary Kings! Dropped on Mandragora Island, you’re tasked with one mission: rescue the brilliant Dr. James Neil from the forces of C.L.A.W. (Cyber Loyalist Active Weapons) and prevent them from using the Mandrake Formula to conquer the globe.

You can be a lone wolf if you dare, or assemble your own team of mercenaries to take down C.L.A.W! Your crew can have up to four players, whether it’s on your couch or online.

Thanks to your support crew back at Camp Crown, the side-scrolling action of Mercenary Kings gets deep. The materials gathered during your missions can be forged into powerful cannons or sharp blades. With 300+ gun parts and more than 100 knives, the possibilities are huge! Will you craft a machine gun with mega-ammo, or a quick-reload pistol? What about forging a blade with deadly range?

You don’t have to decide right now, but make up your mind by April 1st because you won’t have any time to waste when you take on the legions of C.L.A.W.!”

As a day one owner of a PlayStation 4, I feel as though indie games are a necessity as there seem to be no exclusive games heading the PS4’s way besides the soon to be released inFAMOUS: Second Son. With all the exciting buzz from the PS4 reveal and E3 last year, it seems as though the number of PS4 consoles sold have been the main plus point for Sony. When a great relationship with so many indie developers was promised at E3 last year, I thought that there would have been some more great exclusive games coming to Sony’s main console other than Resogun.

With the announcement of Mercenary Kings, does this provide enough great indie titles for the PS4? I would say that it’s too early to tell whether the game will be good or not, but it’s reminiscent of the Metal Slug series which has entertained millions of people over the years. If the game has one thing going for it, it’s that it is up to 4 player co-op either online or offline.

Hopefully Mercenary Kings will be the start of some great indie titles to hit the PSN store.
