Konami’s Metal Gear series is among the most popular and critically acclaimed franchises in the video game industry and as the old saying goes ‘proof is in the pudding’.

Konami has announced on its official website that since the Metal Gear series launched on the NES back in 1987 and right up to June 2023, the series has now surpassed 60 million in sales. What’s more, the series has also made Konami a reported £785 million.

KONAMI has a multitude of high-profile titles both in Japan and overseas, such as eFootball™ (formerly known as “PES” or “Winning Eleven”), METAL GEAR and PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU series, which have respectively sold or downloaded over 700 million, 60.0 million and 24.8 million copies worldwide,” read the website update.

Recently Konami has been investing in reviving its most popular franchises, something that it has seemingly been reluctant to do in recent years. However, with the Silent Hill 2 remake on the way, the Metal Gear Solid Vol.1 Master Collection, not to mention the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of the developer.
