Greenheart Games, the studio famous for its game development sim, Game Dev Tycoon, have unveiled their second title, going by the name of Tavern Keeper.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Greenheart’s project is another management game. However, this time we manage a tavern in a fantasy world.

Starting out with a basic tavern, we’ll have to manage the building’s staff, stock and improvements, serving a range of humorous and fantastical customers. Become successful enough and you’ll earn new, larger taverns, unlock new things to serve and progress to more challenging levels.

It all sounds rather like Theme Hospital, doesn’t it? By no means a bad thing.

Personally I really enjoyed Greenheart Game’s quirky game development sim, however it did come with a whole host of problems that marred its potential. Some contrivances that made the process of making games less creative and much less enjoyable, particularly towards the end. But still, it was a good effort, and filled a hole in the market at that time. So it’s good to see the devs are still at it, and have stuck to the management genre.

Judging from screenshots, the game looks very quirky – running a tavern in a swamp, serving customers from peasants to orcs – and the feature list sounds promising. Expanding your kitchen to serve new dishes, dealing with ‘events’ that could make or break you, keeping customers satisfied with entertainment, and so on. It’s still very early days, but it definitely has me intrigued.

The game is still currently in Alpha with no release date set, however a Beta is planned for some time in 2018. So a long way to go. Nevertheless, as more information is released we will keep you updated here at PushStartPlay.
