In the seemingly endless development period of the attempted revival of the System Shock series, any new info feels like a decent, if laboured, step forward. And in this case OtherSide Entertainment have actually released a short gameplay trailer so we can see for ourselves some of the progress made, and though short, the trailer picks up the confidence in what the game might turn out to be.

Aside from the predictable presence of Shodan in the trailer, it’s also cool to see some of the enemy types. This is certainly looking a lot more ‘horrific’ than I was expecting, and some of those gribblies would give Dead Space a run for its money.

We also get to see some weapons in action, which includes the wrench, an ice gun, some sort of electrical weapon and something else I couldn’t quite work out – though looked like it fired out some grenade or other explosive.

It’s looking quite action orientated, though the glimpses of those turrets, sensors and vents does suggest there will be some sneaking and perhaps technical manipulating like we all know from the originals.

There’s not much more to say about the trailer itself, other than it’s looking promising – particularly as it advertises this as pre-alpha footage. Hopefully they won’t be so stingy on info releases from now on and we’ll get to see a bit more of the actual gameplay?

Either way, there’s no release date as of yet, though the unofficial word is that it should release on PC sometime next year.
