A gameplay commentary video has been released for the 2.5D action, RPG infused platformer Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King, which we previewed back in July.

Redlock Studio provide some insight into some of the game’s concepts and mechanics, including how the hub/level select system works, as well as platforming elements and combat.

The hub area, referred to as ‘Limbo’, contains multiple gateways, each serving as an entrance to a new level. Through these gateways, and through much of the game it seems, you will be guided by a strange creature called Y’aak, who will hint at the history of this strange land as well as steer you in the right direction.

Platforming comes across as a simple series of jumps and dashes, though the levels, much like many Metroidvania style games, contain secrets and multiple paths for you to try and get to.

The combat is what most peaked my interest when the game was announced, but also the thing that most disappointed me playing the preview. Shattered takes the form of a 2.5D side-srcoller for the most part, however upon encountering a boss, the game will switch to an over-head 3rd person view. When I played the game the combat seemed far too simplistic, and frankly it was better to just run past foes. However, the gameplay trailer here shows a little more complexity – with the character blocking and moving out the way of strikes. The developer continues to assert that each enemy has unique styles, so for the time being we’ll have to take their word on that.

You can read my preview of the game here. Otherwise, check out the gameplay trailer below and keep an eye out for more info on the game here on PushStartPlay.
