A batch of new screenshots have been released for the PC underwater psychological thriller, Iron Fish.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, the screens show off a bit more of the environments and life that we will encounter upon its release, including the inside and outside of a sunken ship, whales and sharks, and what looks like some sort of underwater vehicle you can pilot yourself.

Playing as a marine investigator for an elite British Naval group, you’ll use “state of the art, government-funded equipment” to submerge 7 miles below the surface to see what’s down there. Cue panicky encounters with sharks and other water-gribblies, as well as some potentially supernatural discoveries as you explore the hostile unknown (check out our previous article for more info on this).

If you’re attending this year’s EGX in Birmingham (24th to 27th September at the National Exhibition Centre) then you can give the game a go yourself as a demo will be playable in the Rezzed area.

Shaun Leach, creative director at BeefJack, said this about the demo:

“What people will get their hands on is a gentle sneak peek at the game – a chance for people to experience the unique world of Iron Fish. At EGX we’re trying to take people on a journey through the serenity and calm of the sub-surface, and hint at some of the horrors that follow. Gaining valuable input from our players is really important to our design philosophy, so we can’t wait to see how people respond.”

As part of the demo players will get to experience ‘D.A.D.’, or ‘Dynamic Abhorrence Director, which supposedly “triggers unnerving events that sync with the player’s exploration”…I’m not entirely sure what that means, but it kind of sounds like random encounters.

Nonetheless, the game is looking very exciting – the new screenshots further indicate a very atmospheric and eerie title, and the concept is very interesting indeed.

The game is set to release later this year on PC.
