New Sonic Game in Production and Team Sonic Racing Trailer Details Customisation

At the SXSW Sonic Panel over the weekend, Team Sonic chief Takashi Lizuka revealed that the next Sonic the Hedgehog game has started its development by saying that his team has “begun production on the next major Sonic title.”  However, he did add that they will “share more news with you in the future, but for now, thank you for your patience until we have something to show.

So reading between the lines, I’d be surprised if that Sonic game was to release late this year, as it will most likely be released in 2020.  But if we’re lucky, hopefully we might get to see a trailer at least towards the end of this year.  Being a lifelong Sonic fan myself, I’d be the first to admit that the series has had a very rocky road since back in its heyday.  I thought Sonic Generations from 2011 was a decent game, but 2017’s Sonic Mania was a brilliant title and was a throwback to the great titles of yesteryear.  However, Sonic Mania wasn’t developed by Sega, but rather the indie teams at PagodaWest Games and Headcannon were responsible for that gem of a title.  When we have more news on this latest Sonic the Hedgehog title, we’ll of course update you once we know more.

Also at the SXSW Sonic Panel, we learned more about the forthcoming Team Sonic Racing, in particular with the games customisation features.  The trailer found below shows how you can apply mods, vinyls, horns, paint jobs and more to your favourite race cars.  Below, you’ll also find a batch of new screenshots of the customisation features.

And if that wasn’t enough Team Sonic Racing goodness for you, then episode one of the Team Sonic Racing Overdrive mini-series has been released.  It’s a fun animation developed by Tyson Hesse and Neko Productions.  Finally, we also get a sample of the soundtrack from the Bing Party circuit.

Team Sonic Racing will release for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on May 21st.
