After months and months of speculations and rumours, Nvidia has finally gone ahead and revealed the brand new line of cards based on the Turing architecture. These cards are titled RTX and support Real Time Raytracing, an industry standard process used in major movies and animated pictures that couldn’t yet be supported in real time as it traces the path of light rays to showcase realistic rendering of scenes which can be quite heavy in terms of computing power as you can imagine.

Available cards revealed so far include RTX 2080, RTX 2080 ti and RTX 2070. I know, that’s all well and good, but you must be wondering what exactly can this RTX cards do for videogames? Well, glad you asked that as several games have already been shown using the RTX techniques with the help of this card.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Nvidia Ray Traced Shadows is a powerful addition to the game, that when enabled shows hyper-realistic representations of the shadows we see in real life, with support for large, complex interactions, self-shadowing, translucent shadowing, and a litany of other techniques, at a level of detail far beyond what has previously been seen.

Metro Exodus: The Metro series has always been one to push the bar when it comes to graphics. This time it will be doing so no less with Ray Traced Global Illumination for improved natural lighting and Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion that will add pixel perfect shadows, making the overall experience a richer more immersive experience.

Battlefield V: What better way to showcase RTX than DICE’s graphics powerhouse of a series, Battlefield. In Battlefield V, players will be able to witness high fidelity graphics due to full-detail reflections that mirror the action happening in and around the player’s field of view.

Control: It is not a surprise that Remedy are looking to innovate as they always have, and what better way to do so than with the RTX technology bringing glossy Ray Traced Reflections, Diffuse Global Illumination and Contact shadows for influential light sources.

Atomic Heart: It’s a game that keeps on surprising, first with its highly polished gameplay reveal and now with the inclusion of the RTX technology, NVIDIA RTX Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion, Reflections and Shadows transforms the look of scenes, adding massive amounts of detail that accurately mirrors the properties of materials and the surrounding world.

These were just some of the examples of how powerful games will be looking in the future with more titles like Resident Evil 2 to support it. However, if you are interested, may want to hold out a bit longer as the founder editions of the cards will cost you an arm and a leg, costing £569 for a 2070, £749 for a 2080 and a whopping £1,099 for 2080 Ti which is already out of stock on Nvidia’s website.

Still all said, the future is indeed exciting with the prospect of having real time ray tracing that can really elevate the look of the games. This may just be the leap in graphics we have been looking for! Lastly be sure to check out the basic specs for the cards above.
