According to reports, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t have a traditional singleplayer campaign.  Sources of Polygon claim that the reason that Black Ops 4 won’t have a traditional singleplayer campaign is due to the fact that it won’t be finished in time for launch.  So if there really is an issue with the singleplayer campaign not being finished in time, just delay the game, because if these rumours end up being true, there will be a large portion of loyal and unhappy fans.  Replacing Treyarch’s singleplayer focus will apparently be instead on co-operative modes such as Zombies and of course traditional multiplayer.

Call of Duty website charlieINTEL have also claimed that their sources say that Raven Software are working on a Battle Royale mode, as well as confirming the singleplayer campaign concerns.  Sure, Battle Royale modes are all the hype right now, but this at least intrigues me, though it will surely be an orgy of micro-transactions.

Sources at Kotaku have also confirmed with their sources that the information provided by Polygon and charlieINTEL is correct.  Personally, if all of this is true, it’s very disappointing, because while Call of Duty usually releases in November, the decision was made by the powers that be to move the release forward to launch on October 12th.

While I do enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer, I do also really enjoy playing through their singleplayer campaigns, as it’s kind of like my movie equivalent to the popcorn fix.  But if a time restraint really is the issue, just delay the game.  It will still sell by the millions and will still be one of the best selling games of 2018.

Just last month we already had reports that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered which is expected to release this year, will also not release with a singleplayer campaign, which makes it potentially two Call of Duty games releasing  this year in that state, which just makes me sad for the direction this series is seemingly heading.  However on May 17th, Activision will have a Black Ops 4 reveal event, so we will no doubt learn more then.
