Reports Claim Modern Warfare 4 Will Be 2019’s Call of Duty

Last week, opinions were very much split towards the direction that the Call of Duty franchise will be heading, in particular with Black Ops 4 ditching the traditional singleplayer campaign, in favour of a multiplayer focused experience utilising the traditional multiplayer, Zombies and Activision’s plunge into the hottest bandwagon in current gaming, the Battle Royale or Blackout as it will be known in Black Ops 4.

But for now, enough of that Black Ops 4 talk, because we’ve got some good old rumours to chat about and they come in the form of the 2019 Call of Duty game being none other than Modern Warfare 4.  The reports comes via Gaming Intel and Charlie Intel, which when Call of Duty news is concerned, both of these websites are very reliable with their leaks and sources, and in more cases then not, they end up being correct.

Apparently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will release next year and it WILL feature a traditional singleplayer campaign, as well as a traditional multiplayer and Zombies.  However, are you ready for this?  Wait for it….are you seated?  Right, here we go, it will also feature a Battle Royale mode!  If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear ECW’s Joey Styles screaming “OH MY GOD” in the distance in response to this shocking revelation!

I suppose in one sense, another forthcoming Call of Duty game potentially having another Battle Royale mode doesn’t really surprise me, but then in another sense, it does.  Because last week, Activision and Treyarch said a lot about Black Ops 4’s Blackout (tongue twister) being a mode that would last for years, so having another Battle Royale mode to compete, presumably in a similar nature surprises me, albeit its in-house competition releasing a year later, but completion none the less.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 rumours were also given added weight, as a user on Reddit shared a round-up of former Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall) developers who had recently rejoined Infinity Ward, who are of course the developers of the Modern Warfare series.  Anyone that knows the history of Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment will know that a whole host of developers that had worked on Call of Duty titles such as Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, left to join Respawn to work on Titanfall.

So when you consider the rumours in this article, with the added fact that original developers are re-joining Infinity Ward, it makes the likelihood of Modern Warfare 4 releasing next year all that more likely.  However, it’s unlikely that we’ll learn anything more concrete anytime soon, even at E3 next month.

What do you make of these rumours?  Are you excited at the prospect of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releasing next year?  Let us know across our social media channels.
