Thanks to a post on Destiny Reddit page, potentially huge details in regards to Destiny 2 has been leaked.  The details include the story, release date, your Guardian not carrying over and much more.  Now of course none of this information has been officially confirmed, nor will it be, at least until Bungie announce something themselves.  The source which remains unnamed for obvious reasons are claimed to be “within the Administrative ranks of Bungie”.

According to the alleged leaked information, the sequel will be called Destiny II: Forge of Hope and will release Q4 2017, with a potential release window aimed between November 4th to November 18th.  It will release for PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox Scorpio (TBC) and the heavily rumoured PC release.  Console exclusivity will remain with PlayStation, however, it is said that the exclusive deal will be reduced to three months.  According to the reports, as already rumoured, your Guardian will not carry over and there will apparently be a complete reset.  The reason for this is that the sequel is being built from the ground up on a new engine.  It is said that this was a hard decision made by Bungie, but one they had to make, despite having the promise from the start that your Guardian will stay with you throughout the Destiny series.  Though I’m hoping your Grimoire score will at least carry over.

However, this reset is said to have some benefits, with a greater depth of customisation for your Guardian, which includes added detail to facial hair, class themed face paint, tattoos and more.  The benefit of the new engine (other than performance and visuals) will be that Bungie will be able create and add new content much more swiftly.  The leaked details state that Bungie aim to follow Overwatch’s lead by releasing an event every 1-2 months, providing new narrative paths and introducing new gameplay mechanics.

In terms of story, it will focus on the events after The Taken King, where the Cabal attack the city and the Tower.  The Guardians will then fight back to take back their city and the Tower.  We will also learn more on the whereabouts and story of Queen Mara Sov and more on the motives of The Exo Stranger.  The sequel is also said to include a new Cabal themed Raid (as already rumoured).

Along with new events releasing every 1-2 months, Bungie are said to be planning “substantial content updates” for each quarter, to the scale of the April 2016 update.  It is said that Bungie already have a team working on the first major expansion, set to release in Fall 2018, while they work on the main game.  The first expansion is said to centre on the Vex and the origins of Kabr and Praydeth.

At release, there will apparently be three main versions of the game.  One that includes a (TBC) pre-order bonus, another that includes the pre-order bonus and some “special in-game cosmetics” and the juiciest of them all, will be a Collector’s Edition that includes a 1:2 Scale of the Exo Strangers Relic of Necessity.

Also in the next few days (perhaps a little longer), news will release regarding an upcoming Spring Update set to release early May.  Now of course, you can take all this information with a pinch of salt or you can believe it to be true, but as they say “There’s no smoke without fire.
