Report: Next Assassin’s Creed Game to Be Set in Ancient Greece

While there will be no new Assassin’s Creed main entry this year, which is great as it gives the developers more time and less pressure to create a great game, it hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from spinning to what we might expect in 2019.

According to comicbook.com, the Assassin’s Creed to release in 2019 will be set in ancient Greece, which if true, could mean that Assassin’s Creed: Origins could be the first part of some kind of trilogy, assuming that ancient Greece will happen, it could also mean that they’ll be another Italian setting around the same time period, given that Egypt, Greece and Italy have close historical links.  However, that is just pure speculation on my part.

Comicbook.com claims that their sources stated that the 2019 Assassin’s Creed started production at the start of 2017, which would make sense as the next instalment will be running on the ready-built AC Origins engine.  The sources also claim that Greece was initially meant to be included in Origins, but Ubisoft decided to make it into its own game instead.

While all rumours must be taken with a pinch of salt, the same sources close to comicbook.com provided by Liam Robertson were also apparently correct with information provided for Assassin’s Creed: Origins, such as setting and its final name, he does have a good reputation for knowing his stuff.

As always, when we hear something concrete, we’ll update when that happens.  However, with the next major instalment not releasing until 2019, the release window is always towards the back end of the year, so we’ll have a long wait indeed until the game finally releases.  But you never know, with E3 just a few months away, Ubisoft may tease something at least.
