Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – Episodic Format, Story Details & Official Screenshots Released

Following our big leak at the beginning of this week, Capcom has now ‘officially’ released the first batch of screenshots for Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and as an added bonus, there are also new extra screenshots too, including character art for the new zombie type known as the Afflicted.  If that wasn’t enough Resident Evil goodness for you, then we’ve also been gifted with some interesting story details and the format in which the tale will be told.

One of the many things that I loved about Resident Evil: Revelations, was the way in which it was presented, almost like a TV series, with individual episodes and when you’d return to the game, you’d be greeted with a “previously on” to help you catch up on where you left off.  Now it seems Capcom have taken that episodic presentation to the next level and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be released as individual episodes.

If you’re concerned that they’ll be a lengthy wait between each episode, then fear not, as you may be pleased to know that the episodes should only be around a week apart (four episodes in total) from the last and you will be able to purchase all the episodes on a physical disc when all the DLC episodes have been released.  Perhaps similar to what Telltale Games have done with the amazing The Walking Dead.  Should you choose to buy the physical disc or the Complete Season (basically a season pass), you will be gifted with additional in-game content.

Personally, what I will likely do is purchase the Complete Season via the Xbox One and then the physical disc for the PS4.  Each episode will sell at £5.99/€5.99/$5.99 and a season pass will also be available, with the physical disc costing around £29.99/$39.99/$39.99. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will release early 2015 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  Though sadly at this time, there is no word as to whether it will release for the Nintendo consoles.

Below is the fresh batch of official screenshots for Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and one thing’s for sure, whether you’re a fan of co-op/A.I companions or not, they look downright eerie and I already cannot wait!

Right now let’s get on to the juicy story details (officially).  As we already know, Claire Redfield will be the main playable lead, with daughter of the legendary Barry Burton; Moira Burton offering support to Claire.  You will be able to play the game on your lonesome or via co-op with a friend (playing on your own will result in Moira being A.I controlled).  Again personally while I do love playing co-op with a friend, I much prefer to play my horror games singleplayer with one playable lead.

I did enjoy both Resident Evil 5 and 6, but the truth of the matter is that none of these games were particularly scary and a big reason for this was because you had an A.I in constant support (the term “support” being used very loosely) or if not, a friend could take over.  But as always, I’ll give Resident Evil the benefit of the doubt, especially as how superb the original Resident Evil: Revelations was.  Though if in doubt, we will also have the enhanced Gamecube remake releasing in the same window as Revelations 2 with Resident Evil HD.

Within the story our Claire now works for the anti-bioterrorism organisation Terra Save and to welcome Claire into the company, a special welcoming party is held, with Moira Burton in attendance.  Then out of the blue, the party is gatecrashed by a Special Forces team and as a consequence, both Claire and Moira are knocked unconscious and then later awake in an abandoned detention facility (as learned via our leak).

Now Claire and Moira must work together as a team in order to survive and find the sinister truth behind their current predicament.  It is said that ammo and weapon supplies must be used wisely; giving a strong indication to Resident Evil of old when conserving ammo was a must (as it was with the original Resident Evil Revelations).  It is in this abandoned facility that Claire and Moira will have to take on the new zombie type known as the Afflicted.  I’m also sure that these will not be the only terrifying enemies to worry about and no doubt, Capcom have plenty of surprises in store.

As well as the main campaign, Capcom has promised that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will have additional modes and details will be revealed soon (fingers crossed we’ll know more at the Tokyo Game Show this month).

Capcom has also announced that they want fans to discuss the weekly episodes in a special way with fellow fans from around the world and they have promised to release details as to how we can join in and start our very own rumour mill as to what the episodes may have in store for us all (though we do obviously have Facebook and Twitter to do that already).  Capcom have also told us to keep a vigilant eye on residentevil.com as well as the official Facebook page.

For all things Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and Resident Evil HD keep checking back at Push-Start.co.uk.
