Update 12/04/17:  A new piece of marketing material has been leaked for the next rumoured Call of Duty outing which will take us back to World War II.  The leaked poster seen below, also gives us a release date of November 2nd.  Hopefully with all these leaks, Activision will officially announce something soon.

Original Story 27/03/17: Rumours have been strong for quite some time that Activision will finally be ditching the futuristic themes of the Call of Duty series and go back to its simpler, historic roots.  The most recent being when Activision Executive Eric Hirshberg stated that the series will in-fact  “return to its roots” as Infinite Warfare especially did not “resonate” with fans and back in November 2016, the possibility of a Vietnam setting was also hinted at.

However, thanks to some alleged images of steelbooks and marketing posters that have leaked, it looks like the next Call of Duty game will return to World War 2.  The images seen below seem to focus on a possible beach landing, Normandy being the most infamous, though it’s obviously not the only one that existed.  If this information proves to be correct, it looks like we’ll also be getting a simple name of “Call of Duty: WWII”.

This year’s Call of Duty instalment will be developed by Sledgehammer Games.  As always, when/if we hear of further developments on this story, we’ll update you as soon as possible.
