The Horizon series from Guerilla Games is one of Sony’s flagship series on PlayStation and fans eagerly await the next entry in the franchise.

In December 2022, Guerrilla Games advertised for job vacancies to work on a new game in the Horizon franchise for an online project believed to be an MMO. This spin-off is to be developed by NCSoft, and it would be safe to assume that this Horizon MMO would be coming to PlayStation 5, right? Well, that might not be the case.

As reported by Push Square, a tweet shared by user Kurakasis reveals a long list of details on the multiplayer Horizon game and amongst those details is no mention of a PS5 release. At this time, only PC and mobile are mentioned with a 2025 release at the earliest.

While the prospect of exploring the world of Horizon with my son is an appealing one, it would be likely that this MMO would be a free-to-play microtransaction live-service game. The latter of which does not appeal to me, even as a big fan of the series. Perhaps Horizon MMO might exceed all expectations, but then again, PlayStation owners might just dodge a bullet. Only time will tell.

That being said, at least we can enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West on PC and PlayStation with the likelihood that a third mainline entry will eventually arrive.
