SEGA has announced that they plan on rolling out fully recyclable packaging across all of their physical PC portfolio, beginning with Total War: Rome II – Enemy at the Gates Edition (which releases on February 6th), which initially began as a trial process with the 100% recyclable packaging for Football Manager 2020.

It’s a small step, but perhaps one that other publishers will also follow, not only for PC, but for consoles too.  To be honest, I’ve always been a fan of cardboard packaging and sleeves, so with it being to the benefit of the environment is an added bonus.  However, the packaging from SEGA is not also fully recyclable, but it’s also been made from recycled materials too.  At the very least, this step will reduce a small % of pollution and waste being sent to the landfills, which will only increase should any other publishers follow SEGA’s example.

All of SEGA’s physical packaging will be made from 100% recycled and recyclable cardboard, as well as the manual’s materials, the printing uses water and vegetable inks, the shrink wrap used is also 100% recyclable with low-density polyethylene.  The disc is also recyclable via specialists sent to by SEGA.

To add, even if other publishers don’t follow suite, the ever-increasing digital sales is also in favour of the environment, but I do believe that we’ll see other publishers jump on board soon, in my opinion.
