The Shadowrun video game series looks set to finally get a follow-up in Shadowrun Returns.

Long time gamers may remember two great Shadowrun games, one released on the SNES, the other for the Mega Drive, while even older fans may remember Shadowrun as a pen and paper RPG (which is still going strong). Those who love finding obscure games will also know there is a Mega-CD version of Shadowrun that has a more anime-flavour to it and some would like to forget the Xbox 360 and PC version exists.

Well Shadowrun fans, it looks like a follow up is on it’s way as Harebrained Schemes LLC (somewhat the original owners…it’s a convoluted story they’ve summed up in their Kickstarter page) have began seeking funding for Shadowrun Returns. They are looking for $400,000 in funding in (as of this writing) 24 days. So far they raised just over $89,000, so it looks like they are on track to hit that target.

For those not familiar with the concept of Shadowrun: “Created almost 25 years ago, Shadowrun remains one of the most original and cherished role-playing settings. The game world’s origin story mashes-up the dystopian Cyberpunk future of a Blade Runner with the high fantasy creatures and races of a Lords of the Rings in an organic way that produces iconic characters, environments, and situations.”

Shadowrun Returns is being aimed for for Apple & Android tablets and PCs. You can view the whole project plan here.
