Silence – The Whispered World 2 Coming To Xbox One

Sequel to the Whispered World – the charming, colourful Daedalic point and click released in 2010 (in the UK) – Silence – The Whispered World 2 has now been revealed to be coming to Xbox One alongside the PC and Mac versions in early 2015.

Daedalic’s Studio Manager Steffen Boos said: “Silence has always been a multi-platform project. From early on, we planned to release Silence – The Whispered World 2 on consoles as well, but we wanted to make absolutely certain the controls were tuned to each platform before announcing its console status”.

Boos also commented on the fact that this is Daedalic’s first title to grace ‘next gen’ systems: “We think the new generation of consoles offer a platform that is ideal for indie development, and with the new gameplay we’re introducing to the adventure genre with The Whispered World 2, adventure games now also can be a good fit to consoles”.

The story follows the character Noah “who is about to lose his little sister Renie to the perils of war. He barely manages to follow her and finds himself alone, back in Silence – the world he once travelled as Sadwick the clown. And even here war ravages the land. In search for his sister, Noah joins a group of rebels who fight the false Queen”. That’s a fair bit to get your head around and, if I’m honest with you, I don’t fully understand where the story here is going; but it is promising a similar “emotionally deep” adventure as the original.

Silence will, however, feature completely new 3D visuals and a different take on puzzle solving – abandoning the inventory system of old for puzzles that arise from “each specific situation in the game itself”.

I’m a little hesitant about the game’s new look – the original was whimsical and charming, and I hope this sequel doesn’t lose any of that. However, it’s still a very exciting prospect. The original was superb and totally deserves a continuation.
