Square Enix Yanks Deus Ex’s Atrocious Pre-Order Plan
As you know, some games are getting quite bold with their “Pre-Order incentives“, offering players who pre-order them, different tiers of rewards. To be fair, offering something to people who pre-order is all well and good, however, when different items start getting barred behind exclusive retailers, the overall concept gets really messy, and quite frankly, greedy.
So, it comes as a nice surprise that the atrocious pre-order plan that was in place for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been yanked. The problem with it wasn’t that it was dependent on how many players pre-ordered the game, but instead the fact that you were only able to choose a certain few items, and not everything on offer, and with its final tier, the game would release 4 days early, which also never went down all that well . Ultimately, it would get you to miss out on some rather cool stuff. So instead, you will now be able to get everything on offer whether you pre-order the game or get the day one edition.
In this day and age, pre-orders are generally frowned upon, especially when it comes to triple A level games, mainly due to Ubisoft’s recent antics with Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Watch Dogs. A practice that is in contrast with great store fronts like GOG that not only provide you with a no strings attached purchase, but also give you a lot of cool extras ranging from the soundtrack of a specific game to its digital artbook. Furthermore, who could forget how CDPR treated its customers with utmost respect by not only attaching a lot of cool goodies to the base game, but personally thanking them for their hard-earned investment they put into their game.
I hope more and more developers will follow in CDPR’s footstep, and truly make each purchase a satisfying experience, especially considering how expensive games have gotten recently.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be available on the 23rd of February next year for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
