A release date for the remake of Syndicate has been confirmed by Electronic Arts.

Developed by Starbreeze Studios, best known for video game adaptations of The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, Syndicate is to be released on February 21st, 2012 in the US and on February 24th in Europe.

This release date has come as a surprise to many, considering that it was only officially announced earlier this month.

Set in 2069, players take on the role of Miles Kilo, a cyborg enforcer for the Eurocorp Syndicate – a warring multinational corporation. It is said that Syndicate will bear heavy influences from sci-fi films of the 1980’s, such as Blade Runnder and The Terminator.

Syndicate is a remake of the 1993 title of the same name, created by Bullfrog Productions and was released on numerous platforms, including the Amiga, Sega Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo (SNES). However, instead of the top down team-based approach that the original title went for, the remake will be a first person shooter.

Electronic Arts said that they’re aim for Syndicate is “to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original.”

Syndicate will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
