Unfortunate news for those looking forward to the remaster of classic sci-fi adventure System Shock, as in an update on Kickstarter the CEO of Nightdive Studios, Stephen Kick, announced that the game is being put on hiatus after issues with development.

In a candid post, Kick explained that the original vision for the game had been lost in the lost development process, and as a result the team needs time to reassess its path.

“As our concept grew and as our team changed, so did the scope of what we were doing and with that the budget for the game. As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners. The more that we worked on the game, the more that we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great.”

It’s important to remember from all this, and especially considering the project garnered a whopping $1,350,700 from Kickstarter backers, that this isn’t a cancellation. And Kick expresses this in his post, saying:

“Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever. System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled.”

Hopefully the game will be back on course in the not too distant future.
