I’ve also been a sucker for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, ever since I became a fan in the late 80s and shared that fondness for the franchise later with my son.

So when a new video game based upon my favourite ninja turtles is announced, such as that Ronin game, I’m usually excited. However, while this TMNT arcade game is based on the Nickelodeon series set between 2012 and 2017 (my favourite series since the OG), it’s being published by GameMill. That company was responsible for the abominations that were The Walking Dead: Destinies and Skull Island: The Rise of Kong. However, this is developed by a different studio from either of those two games, Cradle Games.

“Join Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo from the 2012 Nickelodeon series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this exciting arcade-beat-em-up inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time,” reads the press release. “Battle your way across Coney Island, Dimension X and more on a mission to defeat the Foot Clan and your arch-nemesis Shredder!”

Sure, I could be wrong and this game could be great but GameMill has given no reason to trust the quality of its future games. I hope that I am wrong. For now, at least, I’ll be sticking with TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge for the foreseeable future. To be fair, the trailer at least looks good.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants will be released on 23 April for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It will have a budget price of £24.99.
