EA have released a new trailer showcasing The Sims 4‘s new and unique emotions, and how they have a direct influence on how your Sim will live their life.  The trailer introduces you to some of the different emotional states your Sim can be in – ranging from anger to excitement, and boredom to energised. In the series’ previous titles, your Sim would have their mood represented by a bar and depending on how many of their aspirations you fulfil, that bar would change (for better or for worse). The Sims 3 took it a step further and added in moodlets, such as strained, well rested, and comfortable which had a small impact on the gameplay.

In The Sims 4, however, you have more direct control over the emotions of your Sim; if you make a Sim who has the ‘anger’ trait, then they’re much more likely to have the anger emotion, and what your Sim does in their daily life (such as showering, sleeping well, and eating food that they enjoy) will have a direct influence on their mood as well. For example, having the anger emotion would unlock some unique interactions and animations specific to that emotion state, but not only that – emotional states such as anger, inspired, and confidence can give your Sim a new way of training up skills!

The player’s ability to control their Sim’s emotions for the first time will certainly deliver a new and interesting way of playing the game. On top of the new and interesting way of building, creating Sims, and interacting with the world, The Sims 4 could potentially shape up to be the best instalment of the franchise so far.

The Sims 4 will launch on Origin on September 2nd in the US, September 4th in Europe and Australia, and September 5th in the UK on Windows, with a Mac release coming at a later date.
