We know when we’re building up to E3 when all the leaks, rumours and retail listings appear from the darkened corners of the internet and the latest game to appear from the proverbial shadows is none other than Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell.  The news was brought to fans attention when posted on Reddit in which Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 2018 appeared on the Canadian Amazon retail website.  From what I can tell however, that listing has since been removed.

As with any retail listings of this kind, especially before an official announcement is made, they are often just a place holder, although no exact release date was given anyway, other than 2018.  It’s also given that if/when the next Splinter Cell releases, it will be for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.  However, unless the game has already been in heavy development for a couple of years at least, I’d be surprised if it released this year as I think 2019 would be far more likely (although I’m probably wrong).

If these rumours are in-fact true, then I doubt very much that Ubisoft would announce anything official until E3 this June and I’ll be on the edge of my seat until that announcement happens.  The last time we had a Splinter Cell release, was Blacklist in 2013, so it’s fair to say we’re overdue a new title in this beloved franchise.

The last time we heard anything on the possibility of a new Splinter Cell was following E3 last year, where some folks at Ubisoft made us aware that they know fans want a new game.  We’ll update you should we hear more on this story.
