Recently, an image was leaked that reportedly contained the logos of unannounced games currently in-development at Ubisoft. One of the games was Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which was today officially announced by Ubisoft.

Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier with the UbiArt Framework engine, which also powers Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a hand-drawn sidescroller set during the First World War, and follows five individuals as they attempt to survive the war. Linking the characters is a dog, who is set to play a part in each of their lives.

Despite its relatively sombre setting, the game utilises exaggerated stereotypes to present characters of each nationality; the French are frequently seen with baguettes, and the Germans are seen drinking beer.

In terms of gameplay, Valiant Hearts: The Great War will feature a mixture of puzzle solving and platforming. Interestingly, the player will jump from character to character, also jumping across time to different parts of the war.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and is set for release in 2014. Take a look at the trailer below.
