WB Respond To Arkham Knight Season Pass Pricing By Revealing Batgirl Story DLC

Update: The identity of Batgirl has been confirmed by Rocksteady’s C0-Founder and Game Director, Sefton Hill.  He has confirmed via his Twitter account that as expected, Barbara Gordon will be Batgirl in Batman: Arkham Knight.

Original Story 03/05/15: When the Batman: Arkham Knight season pass was announced last week, many had questioned its £32.99 price point.  To be honest it’s not the only game to carry a higher price than other games, as the Call of Duty series has been charging £34.99 for sometime (whether that represents value to you or not, all depends on of course if you enjoy the game, especially its multiplayer).  But regardless of whom charges what, £30+ to pay on top of what you’ve already paid out for the game is some ask.  After all, for £33 you could buy a fantastic full retail game at that price.

In fairness to WB Games and Rocksteady Studios, when announcing the season pass and its price, they didn’t reveal its content (though they should have done in hindsight).  So we weren’t really to know whether that represents full value for money or not, at least until the content begins to release (which is said to be within six months after the release of the game).

However, WB Games has responded to fans questioning the price of Arkham Knights season pass, by revealing some details of its content, which includes story DLC that will see you play as Batgirl for the first time in the Arkham series.  It will be interesting to see which Batgirl story the game will follow, because Oracle in the game is Barbara Gordon, who of course is in a wheelchair.  So will we get The Killing Joke storyline, in which she suffered severe injuries at the hands of The Joker (because we now know her content will be a prequel) or perhaps we will get a new Batgirl altogether?

On the Arkham Knight forums, WB Games revealed the following details on the content below:

Batgirl: A Matter of Family

An all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location where you play as Batgirl for the very first time in the Arkham series – check out the first render of Batgirl.

They also detailed five categories of DLC, which includes elaborating on mission based DLC called The Season of Infamy, which will see Batman take on “legendary super-villains” with new “gameplay features.”  Who those super-villains will be is anyone’s guess, I for one am hoping we at least see a few new entries into the Arkham series.

We’ll also get Gotham City Stories which will add new “narrative missions extending their storylines, both before and after the events of Arkham Knight”.  Looking at the character skin details below, it’s pretty much a safe bet that we could be playing as Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman.  Though hopefully we’ll have some surprises in there too.

They also revealed that the Batmobile race mode will feature “Batmobiles from Batman’s 75-year history”, so I’m sure we’ll see the 1960’s Batmobile and Michael Keaton’s version from the cult 1989 Tim Burton movie.

You can read the full statement below via the Arkham Knight forums with all the need to know details.

Batman: Arkham Knight will release for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on June 23rd.

Earlier this week, we announced the Season Pass for Batman: Arkham Knight.  While the story of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Trilogy will come to a close on June 23rd, we are excited to continue telling stories and delivering more content to explore and play through in the 6 months following the game’s release. We’ll be building more narrative, more missions, more challenges and more characters and vehicles that we want players to experience, even though they didn’t fit into the storyline of Batman: Arkham Knight.

We’ve heard from our community that you want more information on what we’ll be delivering in the Season Pass. While we aren’t ready to unveil every aspect of the content we’ll be developing, we would like to share more detail now to give you a better sense of the scope of the Season Pass.

  • Batgirl: A Matter of Family: An all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location where you play as Batgirl for the very first time in the Arkham series – check out the first render of Batgirl.
  • The Season of Infamy: Play as Batman in all new story missions featuring legendary super-villains invading Gotham City, with new story arcs, missions and gameplay features.
  • Gotham City Stories: Play as Batman’s key allies in narrative missions extending their storylines, from both before and after the events in Batman: Arkham Knight.
  • Legendary Batmobiles with Themed Tracks: Drive the most iconic Batmobiles from Batman’s 75-year history, on custom-built race tracks, each themed to that Batmobiles specific era. Every Batmobile will be drivable across every race track.
  • Crimefighter Challenge Maps: Engage in a series of new challenge maps utilizing the unique play styles of Batman and his allies.
  • Character Skins: A variety of skins from across the eras for Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman.

As we fully ramp up development on the Season Pass, we will be sharing even more details on each monthly content drop. We hope you enjoy playing Batman: Arkham Knight as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.
