#XO18 Microsoft Acquires Obsidian Entertainment and InXile

There have been rumours for quite some time those in preparation for the next generation of consoles, that Microsoft are to purchase the talented RPG development studio, Obsidian Entertainment.  Well at the X018 conference over the weekend, those rumours were confirmed to be true, however, not only did Microsoft purchase Obsidian Entertainment, but they also bought inXile Entertainment for good measure.

So what this means, is that both Obsidian and inXile will be making games exclusively for Xbox One and Windows, which also likely means that both development studios will no longer be bringing future games to PS4 (with exception to Wasteland 3) or Nintendo Switch.

This is certainly a big statement made by Microsoft and should bode them well as they aim to reclaim the market in the next generation.  Obsidian Entertainment are perhaps more well-known for bringing us the likes of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Pillars of Eternity.  While inXile Entertainment has developed the likes of Wasteland 2 (and the forthcoming Wasteland 3), Torment: Tides of Numenera and Bard’s Tale IV.
