Update: According to Yuji Nakamura of Bloomberg Tech via his Twitter account, he claims that his sources at Sony say that there is no truth behind these rumours. But let’s be honest, as fun as it was to speculate, this was always going to be an unlikely event.

Original Story: In quite interesting reports, according to Market Watch, a website that publishes financial information on business analysis and the stock market, they claim that Sony are in talks to buy shares and takeover Take-Two Interactive Software.

The reason this is so interesting is because Take-Two owns Rockstar Games, who of course develop the Grand Theft Auto and Red Read Redemption franchise.  Take-Two also owns 2K, which includes all the 2K licensed sports games such as NBA, NFL, NHL and WWE.

On MarketWatch.com it stated “Take-Two Interactive SoftwareTTWO shares jumped 6.9%, its best day since October 2018. Joel Kulina, head of technology and media trading at Wedbush Securities, referenced rumours about potential takeover interest from Sony Corp. SNE in a note to clients.

Now this of course must be taken with a pinch of salt, as it’s just pure speculation and rumours at this stage.  However, let’s say that Sony does acquire the majority of shares from Take-Two; would they really make games such as GTA6 a PlayStation exclusive?  Compare this to Microsoft who owns Minecraft developer Majong, for which Minecraft remains a multi-format title.  Or the recent acquired Obsidian, which hasn’t stopped Microsoft from releasing RPG title The Outer Worlds on other platforms later this year.

It’s certainly an interesting conversation to have at this stage, so be sure to let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
