A feature I’ve always wanted added to the career mode of sports games is the option to start your individual player from the bottom and work your way up, similar to that of Fight Night Champion. A personal example of mine is with FIFA. I always thought it’d be cool to be playing for a local school team, having to impress scouts who will sign you on youth contracts and you’d need to work hard, winning junior leagues in order to progress and get into the first team or signed to bigger clubs as a hot prospect. Well finally I’m getting a pretty similar feature in the upcoming game EA Sports UFC.

In EA Sports UFC you’ll be starting the Career Mode with an in-depth creation tool allowing you to customise your fighter’s appearance and style. Then you and your new creation will be thrown into The Ultimate Fighter, the UFCs reality TV show where relatively unknown fighters battle it out for a chance to win a UFC contract. Winning this will get you in to the UFC and start you at the bottom of the ladder. This may sound like an obvious addition, but it’s one the previous THQ games failed to really incorporate, choosing instead to start you off in smaller, UFC-owned promotions like the now defunct WEC.

“So you want to be an Ultimate Fighter?”

Gaining success in the UFC depends on 2 things, your popularity and your longevity. Fighting exciting fights and finishing opponents will get you fans therefore earning you popularity, new sponsors, new gear and attracting well known fighters to train with you and improve your fighting skills. If you decide to be a bit of a wild man and take risks you may take more punishment from your opponent. This adds up and will decrease your longevity meaning you may have to retire early. Fighting smart yet exciting fights will be key to your success.

EA Sports UFC also features some interesting online modes. Online Championships lout you up against the best of the best players in order to win those shiny gold UFC belts. If you want bragging rights over a friend then maybe the one on one Online Rivalries will be more your thing, tracking your head-to-head statistics and giving you in-depth analysis of your slugfests to settle any arguments about who’s the best. These online modes will be through EAs new FighterNet, a social hub that logs stat, shares highlight videos, and provides access to additional DLC. If you’re lucky the incredible flying knee knockout you did to a buddy may even show up on the special EA edited highlight reels called Highlight Of The Night.

EA Sports UFC is set to release in North America on June 17th and Europe on June 20th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
