Coming from the Playstation Blog, in unexpected news the cast of The Last of Us will be involved in a live performance at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, where the likes of Troy Baker (Joel), Ashley Johnson (Ellie), Annie Wersching (Tess), Hana Hayes (Sarah) and Merle Dandridge (Marlene) will be performing under the direction of Neil Druckmann on July 28th.

Composer Gustavo Santaolalla will also be performing a selection of tunes from the games soundtrack.  The event will last an hour and a half, and will begin at 3am (UK time)/7pm PT.  Tickets are available free to US residents (though I expect they’ll go quick, if not already) and it will be live-streamed via Twitch and YouTube, as well as the Playstation Live Events viewer.

In related news, this is an ongoing conversation ever since ‘that’ ending of The Last of Us, but it seems talk of a possible sequel has resurfaced.  This time it comes via a conversation with Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer when talking to VideoGamer.  Meyer stated that it would be “a disservice to ourselves and our fans if the studio didn’t consider more games in The Last of Us’ well-received world. But it isn’t obligated to go one way or the other.

Though thankfully if a new game in The Last of Us universe did happen, it wouldn’t be a simple cash-cow job and it would come under careful consideration from the talented studio either way, whether it would happen or not.

When speaking over the possibility of a new game, Arne Meyer went on to say:

It really comes down to is there something interesting in this universe we’ve created that we want to continue to explore? Is it something that we can get the entire team passionate about? Is it something we can get the creative directors excited about and then we could continue it?” He added “We’re just starting to explore ideas of what more could there be in this universe and starting that decision process. That doesn’t mean the end result is guaranteed.

It’s been no secret that The Last of Us: Remastered will run at a beautiful 1080p/60fps, though there is also the option to lock the game at 30fps (a function that I will not be using).  But it’s not just The Last of Us: Remastered that will be at 1080p/60fps, as it’s a minimum standard that Naughty Dog wants to achieve with all their games in future, but would you really expect anything less?

Our community friend Arne Meyer was also talking to Eurogamer when he said that “it would not have been able to maintain the same quality of visual effects with a higher resolution and frame rate on the previous generation”, when talking of the resolution and framerate of TLOU: R.

The Last of Us: Remastered has in fact made for an excellent platform for Naughty Dog in taking their games into the new generation with the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which is expect to release 2015 sometime.

Meyer added that “I think that’s what we want to push for with anything we’re doing on this generation,” he then said “That’s sort of the mandate from when we were building the PS4 engine. Let’s see if we can do this and hit it. We hit it with The Last of Us Remastered, so why not stick with this?”  Hitting 60fps is something that is not new for Naughty Dog, as Uncharted 3: Drake Deception was a game that hit that framerate on the PS3 when it released late 2011.

The Last of Us: Remastered will release for the PS4 on July 29th in North America and August 1st across Europe.  It was also recently revealed via a leak that the game will likely carry a 50GB installation on your PS4 Hard Drive, so it might be with considering upgrading to a 1TB Hard Drive sooner, rather than later.

As a reminder, remember to catch The Last of Us ‘One Night Live’ on July 28th, as it’s sure to be a captivating event and one certainly worth watching for fans.
