Update 3 23/08/16: Courtesy of AGD, they have uploaded a video unboxing of the PS4 Slim console and with it comes a revised DualShock 4 with a Lightbar on the Touch-Pad and the controller has a matte finish to compliment the console, you can watch that very video below (before it inevitably gets taken down by Jack Bauer and Sony).

Update 2 22/08/16: Eurogamer has now removed the video after apparently “taking legal advice“.  I would hazard a guess that Sony wasn’t too happy about it and they sent in Jack Bauer to interrogate the Eurogamer and Digital Foundry staff…allegedly.

Update 1 21/08/16: Last night the gamig world sent the internet in frenzy with an alleged PS4 Slim console that was acquired by a person via Gumtree, which is safe to say wasn’t legal.  In this day and age of 3D printers, it’s difficult to be sure as to whether some things are genuine or not.  However, via Digital Foundry, Eurogamer has confirmed that this slim console is in-fact genuine, as they visited the persons house of whom had bought this console and recorded the footage of that very console working.  The video can be seen below.

Also, Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Sony plan to release this console alongside the Neo, likely this September.  They also state that the current model of PS4 has ceased stock in Japanese stores and this Slim console is made by cheaper parts, such as the case and innerts, and lacks an optical output, and as a result will be sold as an alternative budget console with the price expected to be in the region of $200.

Original Story 20/08/16: Leaking initially from a Gumtree listing (which has since been removed), it appears that the PS4 Slim console has appeared online, apparently weeks ahead of when Sony were to make an official announcement.  Naturally, the images were questioned in terms of their validity, but then Twitter user shortman82 posted images of the new console indicating that he had purchased the console for himself.  Obviously, it goes without saying that the purchase is unlikely to be legal and we have no idea as to how these consoles were acquired, but it’s fair to say that someone is going to be in very big trouble to say the least.

As you can see via the images in this article, the console looks to be around 50% smaller than the standard PS4 console.  It also appears to have a matte “Jet Black” finish and the removal of the lightbar.  What make the images to appear even more genuine is the branded logos on the top, rear and front of the console.  Add this to the packaging that features branded images of Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo Sport and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  What does surprise me is that the console according to the packaging is 500GB. However, as much like the new Xbox One S console, we could have a number of storage choices from 1TB and upwards.

These images could of course be the result of a very accurate 3D printer, but that’s not even taking into account the very authentic looking packaging.  Personally, I was a little doubtful when I saw one or two of these images, but as more leaked, I’d be surprised if this isn’t the real deal. But then again, could it be PS4 tech in a shell created by a 3D printer?  It would be great if we saw a video of this console working.

If this is real, I’d image that Sony’s plan was to announce this slim console alongside the forthcoming 4K Neo console.  You can check out a gallery of the leaked images below.  What do you make of this alleged leaked slim console?  Do you believe it to be genuine and is it something that you would invest in?  Let us know in the comments section below.
