Square’s third instalment has already been revitalised many times since its initial NES outing in 1990. The most drastic rework was the generally well-received DS version of 2007 that overcame its dodgy polygonal aesthetic to provide one of the platform’s most compelling RPGs. Since then it was ported directly to the iOS, but sales haven’t been brilliant – perhaps because of control issues.

Square Enix have recently announced that Final Fantasy III will be coming to the PSP (and presumably PSN at a later stage.) Andriasang reported that the title will be mostly similar to the previous versions, with a few adjustments. On top of the 16×19 screen support, PSP users will gain access to both the old and new musical scores of the game, a gallery mode and a double speed battle switch function.

Final Fantasy III is the only title of the first nine games not to make it to PSN in one form or another. It’s set to drop on September 29th in Japan; all Square Enix has to do is okay the localization, providing the West at last with the complete digital set.

Check out the official trailer below. (I hope you can read Japanese).
