For the second year running, Sony will not be at E3 this year.  Sony had ditched the world’s biggest gaming convention last year, instead favouring their own in-house shows to reveal official news, with the PlayStation Experience and the Nintendo Direct inspired, State of Play.

It makes total sense from Sony’s perspective, because no doubt that E3 is an expensive show and despite having millions of eyes watching via streams and uploaded footage, not to mention the 1000’s in attendance, Sony’s own shows gain millions of views in their own right too.   So there’s no real need to reveal the likes of the PS5 at the expense of a third-party show.

In a statement give to Gamesindustry.biz, Sony explained their reasons for skipping E3 2020:

After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020, we have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.

We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favourite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.

Are you disappointed that Sony will be missing E3 again this year or do you believe it makes little difference?  For me personally, I’m with the thinking of the latter, so do let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
