Accessory Review: KontrolFreek Call of Duty Revives/Modern Warfare Sticks and Gaming Cable

It’s that time again for me to review my latest batch of KontrolFreek accessories, I swear blind that over the last 12 months, I have unknowingly developed an addiction by collecting various goodies.  Though it’s not to the advance stage of my statues and Funko Pop collection, thankfully.

So for you today I’ll be reviewing two thumbstick grips and a gaming cable, which the latter doesn’t sound all that exciting, but it’s a very handy item to have around, especially if you have a wireless headset.  I’ll begin with the two thumbsticks.

KontrolFreek Call of Duty: Revive

At quick glance, these vintage blue thumbsticks might not look quite as advance as other KF thumbsticks available, but what they might lack in height, they more than make up that difference in comfort.

Revive are the second set of thumbsticks to be based upon the Perk-a-Cola range and as always, they have been developed in collaboration with the folks at the Call of Duty headquarters.  The “laser-etched artwork” and rubber pad offers one of the most comfortable set of grips available from KF.  There are other thumbsticks that offer more grip, but the comfort of the Revives certainly bodes well for long gaming sessions, where others may begin to slip a little over a few hours.  In terms of comfort, I’d say that they’re quite possibly my favourite thumbsticks yet.

In terms of technical details, both sticks have a paralleled medium height of 5.7mm, which could also benefit those with smaller fingers.  But as I’ve experienced, they still offer perfect comfort for those even with average/larger sized hands.

Final Verdict 8.5/10

FPS Freek Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

These bright green thumbsticks instantly capture the essence of the iconic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare series or the more recently Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and come fully equipped with the equally iconic laser etched Modern Warfare logo.

The Modern Warfare thumbsticks truly mix things up by having one low-rise domed stick at 5.7mm and a concaved high-rise stick at 10.1mm in height.  An added detail that I appreciate about these sticks, is that the low-rise thumbstick is extra wide for further grip and comfort.  While the rugged grip might not quite offer the level of comfort as the Revive’s, they arguably offer more grip due to its design.

Final Verdict 8/10

KontrolFreek 12ft Gaming Cable

Finally we have the KF 12ft Gaming Cable.  Now I know what you might be thinking, why would I want to buy one of these when I already have a charge cable with my gaming console?  Well the first problem I had with the generic cable is the length.  If one of my controllers was on charge, there was no way I’d be able to use it while on charge, as my sofa simply isn’t close enough to the TV or console.

But the 12ft length should be more than enough length to easily spread across most people’s living rooms or bedrooms.  However, what I found to be extra handy with the cable length was with my wireless headset.  If my battery was low I’d either have to not use my headset or as I’ve done many a time during a Destiny Raid, I’d have the generic USB charger attached to my laptop by my side to charge my headset, while gaming.  Again, this is not an issue what so ever with the 12ft Gaming Cable as there is more than enough length with no pull to charge my headset while gaming, with no laptop by my side!

However, the KF Gaming Cable is more than just a charge cable.  With it being a gold plated contact connection and a high-speed data transfer at 480 Mbps, it not only charges your accessories that little faster, it also improves controller response times ever so slightly, which is why some professional gaming controllers come as a wired connection, instead of wireless.  The cable also has a flat braid design, meaning it won’t get tangled and it’s easy to wind up.  As well as having a Smart Charge Indicator light so that you know when your accessories have reached a full charge.

The KF Gaming Cable comes in three different colours, black, green and blue.  And best of all, the cable will fit most PC gaming controllers, as well as PS4 and Xbox One controllers.  Hell if you want, it can even fit most mobile and tablet devices.

Final Verdict 8/10
