Kingdom Hearts 3D

Birth by Sleep Final Mix director Yasushi Yasue, at the recently Square Enix Production 1 press conference, announced the official title for Kingdom Hearts 3DS as Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. The stereoscopic graphics will be used when players fall from high places or fly to far away distances. Apparently giving the players a sense of breakthrough speed that the development team put extra focus to give a new sense of action. The dream element of the title comes from one of the main themes of the game. All the Disney worlds featured in the game will be new and briefly seen in the trailer a Hunchback of Notre Dame can be seen.

Players will be taking control of the two protagonists Sora and Riku. They can switch between the two, Yasue explains, adding a tactical element to keep the tempo of the game fresh. From the looks of the trailer Sora represents light and Riku represents darkness differing how each will play. Not only that but  the official site states the games tag-line as “when darkness and light are next to each other, light fades to darkness.”

There was also a note from director Tetsuya Nomura at the press conference:

“The tenth anniversary for Kingdom Hearts is right before us, now the series is finally moving towards the last phase of the story. This story will be a prologue for the final battle, as with other titles many surprises await. This time, I took on a challenge and chose to use new hardware, the Nintendo 3DS, to present these surprises. A completely new system is being prepared, which will let you gaze at the vision of the future ofKingdom Hearts. I believe it will be bold and have even more exhilarating action. Please look forward to it.”
