Mafia II takes over the UK video games chart

Analysts may be predicting that Mafia II won’t be able to make its developing cost back, but with 2K Games’ gangster sequel debuting at the top psot of the UK video games chart, those fears may be just for nothing.

Like the former number one Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, the mixed reviews had no effect on the huge day one sales Mafia II experience, which has been said to be the “biggest UK game launch” since Red Dead Redemption.

As alluded to, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days drops down to number two position despite having seen increased sales over the past week, which no doubt Square Enix will see as a bittersweet consolation prize. Toy Story 3 can’t repeat it’s impressive feat of regaining the number one spot and so drops down to three. Other usual suspects to still be occupying the charts include Red Dead Redemption, Just Dance,  Super Mario Galaxy 2 and LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sand manages to cling onto its second week as a re-entry at number ten.

Two new entries appear, though Wii Sports Resort is a re-entry and an impressive one at that at number five. This marks it’s 58th week in the UK video games charts. Sniper: Ghost Warrior comes in at number nine.

Entries to drop out include Art Acadamy, which – due to unexpected success – had an issue with lack of stock which could be affecting its sales. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 also dropped out after enjoying a brief comeback into the top ten and lastly Dance on Broadway dropped too.
