Rumours have been circulating through Twitter that Sony Computer Entertainment has submitted what seems to be a plan of a new PS3 model to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The filling was originally spotted by Japanese website PocketNews, and later picked up by a NeoGAF user.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States government  that works towards six goals in the areas of broadband, competition, the spectrum, the media, public safety and homeland security.

Sony supplied a sample of a “Computer Entertainment System” model number CECH-4001x (an upgrade of the current slim console) which could potentially be even lighter and cheaper than the current system. Since the new consoles can’t be too far away, this would likely be the last revision of the system before the next generation. Hopefully it’s simply a slimmer model, as opposed to a digital only platform, as that decision didn’t work out so well for the PSPgo.
