It was become apparent that a brand-spanking new model of the PlayStation 3 is on the way. According to a retailer, who has remained anonymous, have allegedly been briefed on the upcoming “CECH-3000” model of the PlayStation 3 from Sony earlier this month, and have only now passed on the details.

Rumour has it that the “CECH-3000” model will be an updated 320GB system, it’s power consumption will be cut from 230W to 200W, and the weight has also been cut from 3.0kg to 2.6kg. The internal alterations are apparently not the only changes, as there will also be different power and eject buttons, as well as the removal of LED lamps. However, the retailer report is not clear about the specifics in regards to the external changes to the system.

Pricing will remain the same as the current model in retail, and it looks set to be released a lot sooner than expected, as the new system will be shipped to retailers once current stock runs out.

Push-Start will of course keep you updated on any news in regards to the new PlayStation 3 model as it arrives.
