Rumours have occurred that the successor of the PlayStation 3, dubbed the PlayStation 4, will be arriving for all eager Sony fans in 2012, and will feature “body movement-based control like Kinect”.

According to Digitimes; a source from a Taiwanese manufacturer has claimed that Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, the company behind the manufacturing of the PS3, are aiming to ship a minimum of 20 million units in the systems initial worldwide release.

Such speculations about the arrival of the PlayStation 4 is in complete contrast of Sony’s much-publicised ten-year strategy for the PlayStation 3, after Sony executives have been questioned whether they are bothered by competition, after Nintendo announced the Wii U at E3 2011, and weeks of hear say about the arrival of a brand new Xbox console, which will allegedly be unveiled at E3 2012. They responded that they are not concerned, and have still yet to crack the full potential of the PS3.

However; with the unveiling of the Wii U, the rumours surrounding new successors of both the PS3 and Xbox 360, could this mean that we’ll see the next gen console war a lot sooner than expected?

At this moment in time, nothing has been able to back up such claims, and in our humble opinion; don’t get your hopes up on anything that will. However, for what it’s worth, Push-Start will keep you noted on any updates that may occur.
