Major Nelson has announced that April’s free Games with Gold are IO Interactive’s Hitman: Absolution and Tequila Works’ Deadlight. Both games were released in 2012, so once again Xbox Live Gold members are being treated to two relatively new games this month.

Hitman: Absolution is the most-recent entry in the classic stealth series, and sees you take control of Agent 47, the world’s greatest assassin, as he takes revenge on those that have betrayed him and the agency he works for. Although it’s not the strongest game in the series, it has a relatively good story, and it can be incredibly fun to play, even if it is a little more limiting than Hitman: Blood Money, the previous entry in the series. It’s worth downloading Absolution, particularly if you haven’t played it, and even if you already have. You’re getting a very good game for free, and you should take advantage of it.

Deadlight, on the other hand, is a sidescrolling survival-horror set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, with players controlling park ranger Randall Wayne as he searches for his family. Of the two free games this month, this is definitely the weaker; despite having a good story and nice visuals, it’s let down by small things such as the controls and the linearity of the level design. However, it’s still worth downloading it if you don’t already own it. A decent free game is better than no free game at all.

As with every month, each game is available for only a limited time; Hitman: Absolution is available from the 1st of April until the 15th, and then Deadlight will be available from the 16th until the end of the month.
