Asura's Wrath – the greatest trailer ever?

There have been some awesome trailers before the one for Asura’s Wrath and there will continue to be so. But I’ll be dammed if Asura’s Wrath hasn’t raised the bar in terms of presentation. ‘The Sacking of Coruscant’ trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic is perhaps the only one that come closest to matching the epicness that Asura’s Wrath displays.

So why is Asura kicking ass without bothering to take names? Well, according the Eurogamer, the plot goes something like this:

“Once a revered deity, Asura was betrayed by his fellow gods and stripped of all his powers. Consumed by anger at the injustice he has suffered and swearing vengeance, Asura discovers he can use this fury to his advantage and turn it against his enemies. By channelling his inner rage, Asura is now able to unleash devastating attacks and wreak havoc as he battles against the deities who have wronged him and their earthly forces. Inspired by episodic dramas, Asura’s Wrath will be split into distinct sections with gameplay and narrative unfolding as one and building to a final climatic conclusion.”

And now we have an excuse to cause chaos and widow a few monster’s wives in the process.

Yes, the trailer does show the bande of many gamers that is Quick Time Events. But remember Shenmue, Fahrenheit, God of War and (so I’ve heard) Uncharted manage to do it well, so I’m going to hold out hope that developers CyberConnect2 will be able to pull them off without the gameplay being scraficed. And a giant space Buddha? Yeah consider me sold.

Asura’s Wrath has been confimed to be heading for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. When? Who knows, since “it’s been in development for a year, but is still a way off.”
