Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Gameplay Demo

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 appears to be on the right track for a great first person shooter, not just a great COD game but a great first person shooter. It feels as though Treyarch are taking the single player campaign more seriously. Sure there are still lots of explosion that would make Michael Bay weep with happiness, but it also seems to have the setting right and possibly a mature story to match this.

The year is 2025 and the future is bleak and dreary, drones are the latest weapons and can be used to devastating effects. From the looks of the demo you could tag an area with your computer interface and a drone will come down and attack that area. A big feature of Black Ops 2 is multiple paths in the levels, for instance in the demo we come to a bit where the player has either the option to snipe from an elevated position or rappel down. We are told that each way will play out differently, resulting in high replayability. The game looks to have the feel of a Call of Duty game while also standing out from the previous instalments.

The weapon used in the demo was a high powered futuristic sniper rifle, something we are not used to seeing in Call of Duty, but it is a welcome addition and we are told that you can charge the shot to affect its penetration.

Vehicle sections have also seen a return, but this time the player seems to have more control over these segments which should provide for some exhilarating moments. From what we saw in the demo, you were able to take control off a jet, while it seems you can not control altitude or such, you are able to move from left to right. There was an extended gameplay footage shown on Spike All Access Live which showed footage off a jeep driving section where we are told that players have complete control over the movement in this segment.

The graphics have seen an update too, from gorgeous light effects and fantastic facial expressions. As it stands Black Ops 2 has my attention, I have been waiting for a game in the series to be as revolutionary as Call of Duty 4 was, so here’s hoping that Treyarch can deliver the goods.
