Recently, brand-new additional characters have been available as DLC packs to be added to the already impressive roster of fighters in this year’s well-received reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise. We have had elite Outworld enforcer Skarlet, the blind telepathic warrior Kenshi, and former Edinian warrior Rain.

These come as no surprise, as they are regulars in the Mortal Kombat universe. But the fourth and final downloadable Kombatant is someone that you never would have guessed… Freddy Krueger. That’s right; the most iconic horror villain of 1980’s cinema is taking part in the tournament.

Just like all the others, Krueger will have his own unique move list, including X-Ray move and his own fatalities. One highlighted fatality is Freddy dragging his victim down to hell with him, followed by the iconic fountain of blood, first depicted in the original Nightmare on Elm Street back in 1984.

Some maybe disappointed however that this Freddy is based on Jackie Earle Haley version in the 2010 remake, rather than the original Robert Englund version. But that is nothing to put you off making a purchase, as this introductory trailer has to prove.

The claw-bearing dream walker will be available as a downloadable character via Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network on August 9th 2011.
