Destiny – A Load of Weapons, Including Gjallarhorn are about to get Nerfed!

gjallarhorn-1

Gjallarhorn is the most famous weapon in Destiny, people obsess about getting it and some people refuse to play Raids with those that don’t have this exotic Rocket Launcher in their possession, well Bungie are about to nip that obsessiveness in the bud.

Gjallarhorn, along with other exotics are about to get nerfed, which is a term used for weapons that have been made slightly less powerful then they once were.  I’m sure those in possession of the weapon will cry outrage, while those that do not own the weapon will say “well thank f@ck for that!”  Whatever your feelings are on this decision, I can see Bungies logic behind it, especially the one regarding player’s refusal to play with those without Gjallarhorn (though in saying that, Bungie seriously needs to add matchmaking to Raids).

Bungies sandbox designer Jon Weisnewski said on bungie.net:

If Destiny had a nuke it would be the “Ballerhorn.” We definitely intended to have a high damage Heavy Weapon that was ideal for PvE destruction. What we did not intend, and what we unfortunately saw, was pick up Raid and Nightfall groups gating participation based on whether or not players had this weapon. Gjallarhorn was so strong that for many people it had become the only answer to getting through tough encounters, and therefore they were less willing to spend time with other players that didn’t have it.

To add further clarification “The gun’s secondary Wolfpack Rounds detonation will now have its damaged reduced as a result.

However, a batch of other weapons will also be nerfed, especially during the PvP modes, including Thorn (by having its poison status effect reduced) and Ice Breaker (which will have its ammo recharge slowed down).  It’s not just exotics that are about to get nerfed, as many “popular” weapons including Hand Cannons, Shotguns and more will be effected.  Thankfully it’s not all doom and gloom for you Destiny players, as Auto Rifles will be having their damage slightly increased for the PvP modes.

The adjustments will be made with Destiny’s 2.0.0 update, which should launch in time for The Taken King expansion on September 15th.  You can read all the details on this update over at Bunge.net.
