Over the weekend the highly anticipated Destiny beta leaked on to the Xbox One marketplace where it detailed that it would carry a 12.3GB download, but that was not the only details leaked over the weekend.  On Reddit a letter that was sent to GameStop employee’s revealed that the beta will feature four story chapters, four competitive multiplayer maps, not to mention the huge open world to explore and more.

This news certainly makes for quite possibly the biggest beta test in recent years.  In fact the last time that I was personally hyped for a beta as much as this was with Bungie’s Halo 3 way back in 2007!

As great as this beta is sure to be (and from playing the PS4 Alpha last month I have no doubts), this is a beta test and we can expect to see some hiccups, as Bungie were quick to stress via their official blog:

The Destiny Beta is a test. Make no mistake. This isn’t some circus stunt. This is science – and you’re the lab rat. Just moments ago at a Bungie team meeting, Executive Producer Patrick O’Kelley mentioned the work being done to incorporate the learning’s from the Destiny Alpha. Whenever someone touches our game, it makes a difference.

We’d love to tell you that everything will go according to plan, but that wouldn’t be any fun. That wouldn’t teach us a thing. Even if the Beta is working perfectly, one of the alpha-geeks in the operations center is gonna kick it to see if it still works. Fortunately, we’ll be going to great lengths to keep you informed and keep you in the game.

It is also worth keeping in mind that with this being a beta, it will also be very helpful to pass on any errors that you might encounter (which of course is the purpose of a beta).  So if you want Destiny to be the best game it can be ready for its worldwide launch of September 9th, be sure to pass on relevant information over to Bungie.  Details on how you can do that will be found on their blog.

The Destiny beta will kick-off on July 17th for PS3 and PS4, before going off-line on the 21st for maintenance.  Then it will return on the 23rd for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One before ending on Sunday 27th.

Just recently some awesome Destiny special editions were announced, you can check up on those details here.  Also Destiny is sure to be a game best played with friends, but what if your friends were not invited to participate in the beta?  Never fear because your beta key will include up to three invites to friends, you can read up on that generosity here.

Destiny will release worldwide for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9th.
